You are realistic about the world. You may have challenges that come your way, but you can overcome them.

You are inspired by high energy. Being around other creative, productive people really motivates you.

idol chatter...

Really, really liked Lee DeWyze tonight. Was disappointed with Siobhan, she seemed nervous or something. Andrew Garcia was back in action! Casey James was channeling his inner Eric Clapton, I think. Crystal was great tonight, too.

Usher as mentor was actually effective. I didn't expect to enjoy R&B night as much as I did.

oh yeah...

A former student sent this to me. It fits.

ten things tuesday...

Ten things on my mind...

1) I was invited to introduce the faculty to Glogster. Now I've got to create some clever way of presenting. I thought maybe I'd make a glog.

2) There are times I am so patient at school, especially, but when I'm home and something little goes not according to my plan, I want to explode.

3) I'm really addicted to Farmville. There is a group of us who gather in my classroom before school to discuss and diss the app. We have in-depth conversations about this??!!

4) I love my hairdresser. She did my hair last week and I'm loving it.

5) Ricky Martin's gay. That's news? I Ilove me some Ricky Martin and his shaking bon-bon.

6) It's fun to introduce my students to music. I was playing Jason Mraz's "Geek In The Pink" today and they enjoyed it.

7) Lately, I feel like I'm working much harder than my students are. Something needs to shift. I shouldn't care so much more than they do, especially about their grades.

8) When I teach the Civil War, I learn new stuff.

9) Maybe I ate too many mini-peanut butter cups.

10) All day I've been craving coffee.

A great mystery. The narrator is the survivor of a childhood trauma of which he has no memory, involved as a detective in a case that happens to be located in the same woods. The relationship between the narrator and his partner, Cassie Maddox, is complicated and complex.

The setting is atmospheric and the pace is tight. Ireland is as much a star character as the people.

I figured it out.

l-word...

Teacher Writes 'Loser' on Student's Assignments

(March 14) -- The mother of a sixth-grader in Buncombe County, N.C., is upset about name-calling in her daughter's classroom -- but the students aren't the ones slinging the mud.

Patty Clement is debating other parents in Candler, N.C., over Rex Roland, a teacher who writes the word "loser" on the assignments of his 11- and 12-year-old students.

Clement first noticed Roland's notes in November, when he wrote "loser" in the margin of her daughter's paper. The principal at Enka Middle School assured Clement it would not happen again, but it did, recently, when Roland wrote, "minus 20% for being a loser" on her daughter's assignment.

"This is wrong," Clement told Asheville's WLOS-TV. "The techniques need to change."

Other parents defend Roland's progressive teaching methods, saying he is fond of giving nicknames to students and using the word "loser" in jest, as a way of relating to students.

"A lot of the students he has are academically gifted students, and so one of the ways that he would joke with them would be if they scored a 110, he always gave extra credit, so if they scored a 110, 120 on a paper, he would have a joke on it -- 'loser'," one parent, Kathy Andrews, told WLOS. "That's what he engages in... he gets on their level and their words and tries to relate to them."

Her son, Ian Andrews, a former student of Roland, described him as "the cool teacher that people wanted to be in class with."

Clement said the difference in opinion over Roland, a 12-year veteran at Enka Middle School, has made her daughter a target of bullying and harassment. She told The Associated Press her daughter received almost 100 threatening text messages last week, forcing Clement to keep her home from school.

Clement claims Roland's teaching style is harming her daughter's learning process.

"He threw my daughter's pencil box in the hallway and she got in trouble by another teacher for disrupting his class -- for something that she did not do," she told the AP.

Roland has apologized for using the "l-word," saying it was his way of relating to the students. But Clement continues to press for his suspension.

"I don't know what we're going to do, but I'll fight to the end," she told WLOS.

An online petition titled "Please Get Rex Roland Out of Enka Middle School" currently has 151 signatures, urging supporters to "demand justice for this little girl, anyone else he's doing this to who's afraid to come forward, and all of those who will come in contact with him in the future." It is addressed to Buncombe County School District Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin.

The school district has said the issue is a "personnel matter" that is the subject of an ongoing investigation, according to the AP. Roland could not be reached for comment.

universal

I AM THE CENTER OF MY UNIVERSE
(Author Unknown)

I am the center of my universe
But I do not live here alone
Each move I make creates a ripple in someone else's ocean
Each breath I take affects the air all around me
Each word I utter falls on someone else's ears
That which I touch is felt by another
That which I do will certainly affect another
That which I do not, will also affect another
We never know how far reaching something
We say or do really is until it returns to us
And it always does
All things in life form a circle
Whether we see the circle or not.

idol chatter...

Ok, for the guys I liked Lee, Big Mike, and Andrew. The rest were kind of "meh" for me.

the fingerpuppet test

You Are Flexible

You are broad minded and energetic. You are up for almost anything - all someone needs to do is ask.

You have a true appreciation for nature, and you love being outdoors. You also enjoy traveling to exotic places.

You crave freedom in your life, and you're not big on commitments or responsibilities.

You want to be able to scurry off to the next thing that interests you... whatever that happens to be!

idol chatter...

Really liked Siobhan, Lacey, Didi, and Crystal. Didn't like the rest, even though Lilly is quirky--this week she didn't "wow" me.

Mad that the guys are on at 9 tomorrow night. I don't like Idol beginning at 9.

ten things tuesday...

In honor of International Women's Day on March 8, here are ten women who inspire me in a variety of ways:

Oprah Winfrey: inspired me to get involved in my community, especially working with children and teens.

Lisa Ling: the voice of my generation

Rachel Carson: Silent Spring was eye-0pening.

Sally Ride: dream the dream and then go after it.

Samantha Smith: and a child will lead them. The real reason the Cold War ended.

Fannie Flagg--love her comedy, acting and writing.

Mother Jones: the original voice of those with no voice--advocate like no other.

Maya Angelou: an amazing, inspiring woman.

Alice Paul: indelible impact and advocate.
