new year's meme

The Three Threes

1) Three things that have changed since the beginning of the year: I bought a new car, I started focusing on real self-care, and my boundaries--calling people on their nonsense.

2) Three things that didn’t change: my weight (not necessarily a bad thing), my address, and surpassing my reading goal!

3) Three things you want to change this year: I want to be a better friend, I want to be a better daughter, and I want to set some realistic goals for retirement

60th birthday meme

This has been a birthday for the record books!  All day, students and colleagues showered me with birthday wishes, and after school, I have been fielding texts and messages from friends and family.  Every class coordinated to bring in treats (and were conscientious that it wasn't all sweets or junk).  The handmade gifts and cards make me feel appreciated and seen.

A bad habit I'm going to break: is laziness about nutrition.  I'm going to take a more mindful approach to what I put in my body.

A new skill I'd like to learn: I'm determined to learn to crochet this year.

A person I'd like to be more like: my bestie is such a dedicated friend.  I need to be more like her.

A good deed I'm going to do: pass out compliments.  I frequently see something I enjoy but don't take a moment to point it out.

goodbye 2023

In 2023, I gained: a new responsibility at work--becoming the department chair

I lost: my knitting mojo

I stopped: watching television

I started: getting out more often

I was hugely satisfied by: the trips I took by myself

And frustrated by: irresponsible spending

I am so embarrassed that I: lost control of my bowels 2 times

Once again, I: listened to my intuition

Once again, I did not: prioritize saving money

The biggest physical difference between me last December and this December is: my living space is decluttered and reorganized

The biggest psychological difference between me last December and this December is: stepping into leadership roles at school and at the library board

I loved spending time: reading

Why did I spend even two minutes: worrying

I should have spent more time: meditating

I regret buying: I can't think of anything consequential that I regret buying

I will never regret buying a new Kindle even though with that money I could have  bought a new Nook

I didn’t knit enough.

Getting a new landlord drove me crazy.

The most relaxing place I went was my sister's place in Virginia for three weeks in the summer.

Why did I go to the Bangor Public Library and the Maine State Library by myself?  I had several friends who offered to join me.

The best thing I did for someone else was how I helped a friend.

The best thing I did for myself was travel.

The best thing someone did for me was take time to listen to my concerns at school.

The one thing I’d like to do again, but do it better, read AP exams--well, I read the exams well but I need to socialize more.

good bye 2016

In 2016, I gained: major debt.

I lost: 8 pounds.

I stopped: some negative self-talk.

I started: going to bed early to read.

I was hugely satisfied by: my professional life.

And frustrated by: the state of the clutter.

I am so embarrassed that I: didn't de-clutter.

Once again, I: went on some great road trips.

Once again, I did not: conquer my finances.

The biggest physical difference between me last December and this December is: a knuckle tattoo. I'm a badass!

The biggest psychological difference between me last December and this December is: my get real with myself attitude.

I loved spending time: reading, knitting, and hanging with my tribe.

Why did I spend even two minutes: arguing politics?

I should have spent more time: creating peace.

I regret buying: yarn without making a note of what I wanted to make from it.

I will never regret buying anything I bought this year even though with that money I could have paid down some balances.

I didn’t exercise enough.

Politicians drove me crazy.

The most relaxing place I went was a road trip I took with my bestie--she had a meeting so I treated myself to shopping and a pedicure.

Why did I go to a belated contract negotiations meeting?

The best thing I did for someone else was give them undivided attention.

The best thing I did for myself take stock of my financial situation.

The best thing someone did for me give me some professional feedback.

The one thing I’d like to do again, but do it better, travel!
