Ain't No Other Man

1) Do you believe there's only one person (and there ain't no other) for you? Or do you think we can truly love several partners over the course of our lives? I think love evolves and there are many intensities of love. So I guess what I'm saying is that we can truly love several partners.

2) Do you have this, or any other, Christina song on your iPod/mp3 player? I do, I actually love this song

3) Christina Aguilera won a Grammy for her performance of this song. What do you deserve an award for? And who would you thank in your acceptance speech? This week I deserve an award for my teaching. I was on fire (I'm saying fiya). I'd thank my colleagues and students.

4) Christina Aguilera has her own brand of perfume. Do you have a fragrance or scent you regularly wear? I like to wear a body spray by Bath & Bodyworks Midnight Pomegranate

5) Do you have any allergies? sulfa drugs and housework

6) There's an older lady who proclaims during a TV commercial, "I will give up beer, bread, wine or soda but I won't give up Life Alert!" No, we're not going to debate her diet. Instead the question is: What are some of the staples that are always on your grocery list? I get Polar brand diet orange dry soda, orange juice, and several different Kashi brand products... and I will NEVER run out of toilet paper

7) What's your favorite sitcom of all time? oooooh, what a tough question! Seinfeld is right up there with M*A*S*H in a tie

8) When it comes to your socks, do you prefer solids, stripes or prints? I mostly wear solids but I love funky socks

9) At what age do you consider a person "middle aged?" And when do they transition to "old?" I'm thinking I'm middle aged at 46 (soon to be 47) and it's recent that I've been thinking this way

unleashing a domestic diva

I'm going to try to save some money and eat more healthfully. I bought a crock pot to help me. Look out, world, a domestic diva is unleashed!

finished reading...

From the publisher:
Hoping to bring some Tinseltown money to the Valley, the mayor lures a movie studio to town to shoot their next production, a big-budget Western in the classic tradition. The star is none other than ruggedly handsome—and notoriously badly behaved—Thad Perry. When the mayor decides that someone needs to keep an eye on Thad so that he doesn’t get into too much trouble, Bernie and Chet are handpicked for the job. The money is good but something smells fishy, and what should have been a simple matter of babysitting soon gets more complicated—especially when they discover that Thad has a mysterious connection to the Valley that nobody wants to talk about. What kind of secret could Thad have left behind when he went to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune? The only people who might know the answer have a bad habit of turning up dead before they can talk.

As Bernie’s relationship with his longtime girlfriend Suzie goes long-distance, and Chet’s late-night assignations appear to have resulted in an unexpected dividend, it’s all our two sleuths can do to keep Thad and his motley entourage of yes-men, handlers, and hangers-on in their sights. Worst of all, Thad is a self-proclaimed cat person, and his feline friend Brando has taken an instant dislike to Chet.

I really enjoy this series. I think Chet's meandering thoughts are amusing and I can easily visualize the stories. I liked this book a lot--it's moving the series back to the mystery and less on the secondary story lines.

thursday bug

Sometimes it helps to share with others what bugs your mind.
They may have a solution, a kind word, or a smile of encouragement.
This week my thursday bug is:

What antibiotics do to my guts.

ten things tuesday

Ten things:

1) I'm out of pain killers. I'm still on antibiotics.

2) Today was a county-wide workshop day. My first session was kind of a dud, but the dynamic speaker at my second session made up for it.

3) I am not ready to go back to school tomorrow.

4) I kinda wish I had taken my knitting with me today.

5) I'm really tired. I might have to take a nap. Right now.

6) There, that's better. I just slept for 1.5 hours.

7) Did I mention that I'm not ready to go back to school tomorrow?

8) I'm glad I got to spend some quality time with my sister. She had taken vacation the same two weeks I had off. We knit and laughed and had fun.

9) I didn't get my knitting projects done, as I had hoped. But I had unrealistic expectations.

10)

oh boy...

Well it's looking like my wisdom teeth extraction will be on Monday the 19th. I have a consultation on the 12th and we'll firm up the details. I'm trying to breathe in and out... holy anxiety!

lurve

I watched the new version of Steel Magnolias last night. It stands the test of time and the cast was fantastic. I love Queen Latifa.

This week’s musing — courtesy of http://ladywithbooks.wordpress.com– asks…

• Do you have a favorite series? Do you have a favorite book out of that series?

Most of the series I read are mysteries and I enjoy them. It took me long enough to read them, but the Harry Potter series was a treat! I'm so glad I finally read them. There is also a series of knitting stories that I enjoyed, they were what got me knitting! So, I don't have a favorite series. And I'm not sure about a favorite book from that series.

What helps me organize my book series books is FictFact, so I'm feverishly looking that over to find some answers.

thursday bug

Sometimes it helps to share with others what bugs your mind.
They may have a solution, a kind word, or a smile of encouragement.
This week my thursday bug is:

Tooth pain. And dental anxiety (although writing those words doesn't seem to encompass how I felt).

results...

Oh, sweet Jeebus. I have to have my wisdom teeth out. At least they aren't impacted. Now I've got the drama (and trauma) of setting this up and trying to schedule around school. And the rest of the dental visit went well. Even though it's been more years than I care to admit since my last dental visit, the dentist and hygienist were impressed with the state of my teeth and gums. Except for one wisdom tooth--that of the excruciating pain. So, I'm now on an antibiotic and powerful pain killer. And there's a whole other level of anxiety. I've never been under anesthesia. I know!

finished reading...

I finished reading The Hobbit in time for my book group discussion. It was epic and classic and I appreciated it but I don't care for fantasy fiction.

A couple of my highlighted quotes: "Never laugh at live dragons." And: "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold [as the hobbits do], it would be a merrier world."
