finished reading

This is a re-read for me; my library book group selected it.  And I didn't remember it.

On a foggy night on a lonely road, two women—both fleeing their unhappy marriages—are involved in a devastating car crash. Only one, Isabelle, survives. The other woman, April, is killed, leaving behind a bewildered husband, Charlie, and a sensitive, asthmatic son, Sam, who was also in the car but escaped unharmed. As Isabelle grapples with her guilt and tries to piece her life back together, she becomes increasingly drawn to April's grieving family, who live in the same small town.

The book follows the lives of Isabelle, Charlie, and Sam as they navigate the aftermath of the tragedy. Charlie is haunted by the unanswered questions surrounding April's death, particularly why she had a packed suitcase in her car and where she was going. Sam, in his grief, clings to the belief that Isabelle is an angel sent to help him. As Isabelle forms a bond with Sam through her photography, she and Charlie find a complicated connection, all while confronting the secrets April kept hidden and the painful truths about how well we can ever truly know the people we love.
