There are dual timelines in this charming novel about second chances. Of course, any Irish-based book will capture my fancy. This is centered on the village of Thornwood in Co. Clare on the beautiful west coast. It's the story of Sarah, a grief-stricken woman who hopes to leave her grief behind as she flies to Ireland during the holiday season. She discovers an old, hidden diary and sets out to find the fate of its author, which is the other narrative thread, set in the early 1900s which follows Anna's fascination with traditional faerie stories, legends, and myths. There is a bit of intrigue as Sarah uncovers Anna's tale.
Having taken classes in Irish Oral Tradition and Irish Culture, this book was reminiscent of my Irish experiences. I am glad to have that sense of nostalgia. Not the most action-packed book but a charming tale.

With a taste for the magical in everyday life, Evie Woods's latest novel is full of ordinary characters with extraordinary tales to tell.
