musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• I’m currently reading…
• Up next I think I’ll read…
• I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
• I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
• I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
• I can’t wait to get a copy of…
• I wish I could read ___, but…
• I blogged about ____ this past week…

This week’s random question: How has your reading changed in the last 10 years?

My reading has changed a lot in the last 10 years. I read a lot more, even though I've always been an avid reader. I used to visit the library weekly but since I got my Nooks, I rarely take physical books out anymore. And how I find out about books has changed, too. There are so many book communities, like GoodReads and Litsy, and sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble have recommendations based on past purchases. And blogs and message boards! I used to choose books based on People and Entertainment Weekly magazine reviews, but belonging to book communities has made those reviews passé.

I read more variety now, too. Ten years ago I read mysteries--mostly cozies in series--and thrillers. Now I read YA, rom-com, literary fiction, history, biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs, as well as procedural mysteries and thrillers. And I read a lot more professional material.

Having a yearly reading challenge--like GoodReads' goal or Bingo--spurs me to read more, too.

My reading has definitely changed, too, in the past ten years. Primarily after I joined Goodreads and started blogging.

I love mysteries and thrillers the most, but my reading styles and choices have changed too!

You're so right about the way finding books has changed! I hadn't thought about that in my post. I do still frequent libraries and bookstores a lot but I don't browse the shelves as much as I used to, I find out what I want online and then I just make a beeline to get it. Although I have been known to wander the stacks in the library and find interesting things still.

Here's my musing for today: http://twobirds1blog.blogspot.ca/2016/11/musing-mondays-i-didnt-choose-reading.html

Great answers. I hadn't even thought about that how we find and read books has changed so much. Mysteries and thrillers are some of my favorites too.
