We all had to read things in school that we didn’t like … but what about something you read for a class that you ended up liking (or loving)? An author you discovered that you might not have found? A genre you hadn’t thought about? From the archives.

I found the Transcendentalist writers (Emerson, Thoreau, etc) while I was in high school. I adored their wit and wisdom. And I also had to read Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime & Punishment in my senior honor's English class--I was the only one that got into it. Again, I loved it! I've re-read it a couple of times and love the atmosphere and angst. One of my re-reads was in 2013, I read it along with the sophomore honor's English class that I had as Advanced Placement US History students. They were thrilled that I read along with them.
