musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying about it.
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

This year there has been one book I haven't finished (yet). It's called The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. I really stalled out reading it, which is the problem with reading multiple books at once. Then my book group deadline is on the horizon and it's tough to pick up a book that I don't love.

It bugs me when I can't finish a book. There have been few books that I don't finish. Even books I dislike, I generally finish. I'm kind of torn about The Interestings, on the one hand I am far enough into it that it shouldn't be such a big deal to finish. On the other hand, I'm far enough into it to know I'm not feeling it. I have a mild interest in what's happening to the characters. I don't care for the characters. I am not sure if I'm supposed to care about them or if this is part of the author's style--to create characters that the reader isn't engaged with.

My motto has evolved into--If it's not required reading for a class, you don't have to finish it!

I think there are too many books out there to spend time on something that just isn't hitting it with you.

I used to be of the school that once started a book should be finished but I've been far happier that if I don't 'need' to read it then I'll put it down and choose again... I usually try 25% before giving up. Here is my MM http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2013/11/04/musing-mondays-november-4/

Before I used to finish everything regardless now I don't waste the time. I have no qualms about not finishing a book now. Here's my musing: http://daystarz.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/musing-mondays-14/
