Historical fiction based on the "What if?" premise: what if President Grant and Chief Little Wolf struck a treaty to assimilate the Cheyennes into white culture by having the Native Americans marry white women. So the book is journal entries written by May Dodd who participates as a white woman marrying into the Cheyenne. One thing I like about historical fiction is the freedom taken with facts. The best historical fiction has rich detail and you know the author has spent a lot of time researching to get the right flavor and feel for the time. This book doesn't disappoint.
