So, a student teacher started with me on Monday. I forgot how much extra work it is. She's actually a former student, which brings a whole set of expectations and stuff (I don't want to call it baggage because it's not baggage, necessarily). Last year she did a series of observations and got to teach a lesson. This is her second placement so she seems more relaxed about the nuts and bolts.

Unfortunately, she's coming in on the worst unit to teach. Seriously. The civics unit is the hardest to teach, there's little glamor and it isn't especially fun to teach the Constitution. (The Bill of Rights is way more fun.) The students have already complained about it. Oy.

This is a good opportunity for me to learn about how I operate in the classroom. I've already explained how I established procedures and policies. Consistency is a real key... and organization. I've demonstrated my lesson planning and what I do when I have a substitute teacher.

I hope I'm up for this adventure and not too cynical.

As an intern, I can sympathize with the student teacher.

I know what it is like to get put right in the middle of a situation with only a minimal training.

It is kind of like handing the car keys to a sixteen year old with no driver ed and telling them to take it for a spin around the block.
