NEW YORK -- How many big words do you know?
Fifty students will find out how far their vocabularies extend today in the inaugural National Vocabulary Championship.
Contestants will be asked questions similar to those found on the SAT – questions like, "Which word is an antonym for 'disrespectful'?" The possible answers: "reverent," "superfluous," "dubious" and "blasphemous."
Sixteen-year-old Micah Jordan from New York is one of the finalists. He tells the Daily News he isn't feeling any pressure about being the only black contestant.
He says the game is not about race – just about "words and competition."
The National Vocabulary Championship will be broadcast April 15 on the Game Show Network. The winner will receive $40,000.
