Feelin' hot hot hot...

I hate humidity. There, I've said it. I really hate heat and humidity. Hate it hate it hate it.

I'm predicting that I will get the Welcome Back To School letter sometime this week. I can't say I'm dreading it, though. I'm actually kind of excited to get back into a routine and to be busy. And to see some of the students again. Last year was such a good year, I worked hard at developing better student relationships which were successful. It helps that no one wanted to kill me, that's for sure.

The DaVinci Code is finally playing at the movie theater. Now I wonder if I really want to see it. Is it a wait until DVD? The movies would be a great escape from the heat, that's true enough. I so miss the movies. I miss sitting in the dark and sharing the experience of the story with complete strangers. I miss people behind me laughing at me when I give a startled jump at nothing particularly scary (hey, at least I don't screech). I miss laughing out loud when no one else seems to find it funny. Wow, I'm really geeky. Really geeky.

This morning, after lab work I got an iced coffee and went to the park. I forgot they were draining the lake so there isn't much water at all anymore, but the stench is gone. It was nice to sit in the sun, reading, and enjoying the sounds of the birds. Then the added "pock" "pock" of tennis lessons starting with lots of indecipherable voices talking at once. It was nice to sit. Sit and listen to nothing, to everything. Fat ducks, actually so fat I thought they were clay until they flapped and wriggled. Greens of every shade bowing to the breeze. Blue birds, red birds, robins, black birds, ravens all talking and singing together. A pudgy bunny, a quick sleek red fox who completely ignored the bunny and ducks. And time to drink it in and listen and savor.

What a moment to be alive: to feel, to appreciate, to love. Splendid.

How else can I escape the heat and humidity?

What if this is as good as it gets?

Um, can I come & visit. It's too hot here to sit outside for more than a minute or two.
