Three happy things about today:
1) A student stopped by after school for some help. Turns out it wasn't just academic help she needed. We talked about how shitty her home life is and how her siblings are getting on her nerves. I offered a few coping strategies and we had a good conversation. She knows I see her and acknowledge her.
2) I am caught up with grading. Holy moly but I was behind already! Now I'm caught up. And I lesson planned so that I won't have schoolwork looming over me this holiday weekend.
3) I called my APUSH class "my favorite historians" and they got all excited. I told them I'm impressed with their efforts and persistence.

Sounds like your school year is off to a good start. Yay for getting caught up on grading and planning! Some of my favorite teachers in high school were my social studies/history teachers! I hope things continue to go well.
