Thing one: This is Winter Carnival week at school.  I hate winter carnival because it doesn't bring out the best in anyone--it's not festive.  My students are stressed trying to organize and coordinate.  They aren't having fun.  A lot of students don't bother to come to school.

Thing two: We have early-release days at school for teacher workshops.  This is a waste of time.

Thing three: A winter weather advisory:

FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8
  inches, sleet accumulations of between one and two tenths of an
  inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

* WHERE...Northeast Aroostook and Northwest Aroostook Counties.

* WHEN...Until 4 PM EDT Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The
  hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening
  commute.
