Purple Snowflakes (hear it here)

1) The lyrics ask where the snowflakes go. Sam can answer that: she shovels them! Do you shovel or use a snow blower? Or do you live in a warmer climate with no snow?  when I have to, I use a shovel--luckily my landlord does the plowing

2) This week's artist, John Legend, recalls his Christmases growing up, singing carols with his family around the piano. Do you have a piano, or any other musical instruments, in your home? no

3) This song is from John Legend's first Christmas album, A Legendary Christmas. It was a massive hit. Did you add any new music to your holiday collection this year? I added Dolly Parton's Holly Dolly Christmas

4) John and his wife Chrissy Teigen go caroling with friends. What's the last song that you sang? I sang in the car--as I lost Whamageddon 2020.  To lose on Boxing Day is a sore loss.

5) Chrissy's hobby is cooking. While she likes experimenting with new recipes, her young children prefer their familiar favorites, like mashed potatoes. She tosses a bay leaf into the water as the potatoes boil to add enhance the flavor. Do you have a dish that's considered your specialty? well--my family traditionally has my lasagna for Christmas when we're all together

6) John prefers to unwind with a good book and loves comparing reading recommendations with friends. Did you discover any books in 2020 that you'd like to recommend to our Sat 9ers? I will send you to my Reading 2020 page for 115 (at this time) books I've read this year (a personal best).

7) This song was written by Motown powerhouse Marvin Gaye. Who is your favorite Motown artist? Stevie Wonder

8) In 1972, Marvin wrote another Christmas song, "I Want to Come Home for Christmas." He dedicated it to the troops then serving in Vietnam. Do you know anyone who is protecting us this holiday season? Tell us about him or her. Whether they are in the armed forces, the police or fire department, or the ER, we want to say thank you! I have former students, friends, and family in all of the above--closest to me is my niece-in-law who's in law enforcement

9) Random question: You go into the kitchen to make your perfect sandwich. What fixings do you need? wow--this is the most complicated question this week!  It depends on what I'm in the mood for!  Either multi-grain bread or a honey wheat wrap, mayo or mustard, turkey or ham, and cheese.  OR the same bread options and natural peanut butter and homemade plum jam.  OR a grilled cheese made on my George Forman Grill.

I think we all have set records for the books we read this year. Each month I max out my library card audiobooks

Whamaggedon! I never knew! And I haven't heard the entire song yet this year.

Isn't a George Foreman grill life-transforming? I don't know what I'd do without mine.

I don't think I heard that Wham! song at all this year. Maybe because I always asked Alexa for Holiday Classics. I have read more books than I did last year, but not as many as I once did by a long shot. I know I've read over 100, but I don't think I ever reached 115. Way to go.

I have read way more books this year than any other year and I have managed to keep reading since I started back to work. I was not able to do that last school year...until covid that is. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.
