My friend Henry once made himself an incredibly elaborate bat costume. The wings were extendable and made with balsa wood. He painted his face blue right up to his navy skull cap. I didn't recognize him when he came up to me until he said, in his unmistakable accented English with no contractions, "It is me, Gal." I always wanted to do a costume like that, but I don't have the patience or know how.
