I love Ordinary People so much! Among movie fanatics, there's an ongoing battle -- did it deserve the Best Picture Oscar over Raging Bull. My answer is a loud, LOUD yes. I've never been an angry boxer, but I was a disaffected high school student in the suburbs of Chicago. There are scenes in that movie that are so *perfect* they actually make me laugh in recognition. (Beth Jarrett on Dr. Berger: "Is he Jewish or just German?" Oh my God! My parents asked about all my friends' ethnicities, religions and whether their homes were "nice.")
