hooray!
Spent the majority of the day at the hospital with my dad. The diagnosis is Atrial fibrillation (A-Fib). Today the cardiology team created a plan--so today he had a transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and then electrical cardioversion. And it was successful! The team is keeping him overnight for observation and will consult again tomorrow morning to create a long-term plan. But what a relief that a relatively non-invasive, non-surgical procedure did the trick!
