Thanksgiving thoughts

1. What made you feel patriotic this year? my college-aged Virginia niece went to some rallies in Washington, DC, wearing hats I knit for her

2 . What do you value most about your life? my independence

3. What do you appreciate about your friendships longevity

4. Name one person who can make you laugh, even months later. Why? either Piper or Alana

5. What is the funniest thing you remember about a Thanksgiving past? the year with a kid's table and my niece had a fit about sitting at it

6. Do you have any unusual traditions, rituals or habits around Thanksgiving?
nothing comes to mind

7. Name one ancestor that you think about on Thanksgiving and tell us why.
I always think of my paternal grandparents because it was special to gather around their table, hands linked, expressing our thanks

8. Is there a family heirloom at the Thanksgiving table? What is its story? nothing I can think of

9. What is your favorite part about Thanksgiving Day? the food preparation is always hilarious

10. What random act of kindness did you perform or that was done to you this year that makes you feel grateful? buying coffee for others and having my coffee bought for me

11. What do you appreciate about the change of seasons? this is tough because I don't enjoy the transition to winter... so, let's see, what do I appreciate? Oh--I got it: heated leather seats in my car!

12. Name five things that make you happy about today. no agenda, no noise, nap potential, no alarm clock, comfy lounge clothes

13. How has the celebration of Thanksgiving today changed from when you were little? there used to be about 20 of us gathering together, now there are three

14. If you could share Thanksgiving dinner today with one person in history who would it be? Why? (Note: it can be a relative)
I can't think of someone specific, but someone like a poet or good with quips

15. What is one wish you have for the next generation as they begin to establish their own Thanksgiving traditions. family isn't only blood relatives

"Paying it forward" is nice. Especially because you love your Dunkin coffee so much!

Isn't the food prep fun! I love that part the best of all. Oh, and heated leather seats is probably better an idea than sliced bread, to be honest. Brrr and I live in Southern California, notable for it's mild weather.

Your answer to the last question is lovely.

Sad that we all remember the good times and lots of people and now have smaller gatherings (just 3 of us this year, and my mother won't know why we are together).

I do love your last answer. I belonged (past tense since most of them are dead now) to a wonderful on-line group called "family we chose." I miss them!

One of my best Thanksgiving memories is of a year when my parents came the night before and the four of us working in the kitchen the night before to make the stuffing and other things for the next day. My dad NEVER helped with the food prep, clean up or anything that was "women's work." It was so out of the ordinary and we had so much fun.

Hurrah for independence! I think strong, independent women like you are going to save this country, in the end.
