Ewww to torture, too. My memory clicked to this statement at the time of Aldo Moro's abduction, when General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa said, " "Italy can survive the loss of Aldo Moro. It would not survive the introduction of torture." It is a horrible thing. being a Quaker to my very bone marrow, I concur.
