ten things tuesday

Linking up with Ten On Tuesday this week.

This week's topic is 10 Things You Can Do To Serve Others.

1) As a teacher, I feel like I serve the community by creating citizens.

2) Volunteering with a mentoring program. I've been involved off and on for almost twenty years. From running a big brother/big sister program at school to being a Big myself.

3) Raise awareness for community issues by supporting various civic and student groups, for instance, the GSTA is hosting a "No Name Calling Week" and I'm proudly wearing my button.

4) I am on the Board of Trustees at my local library. I had to be vetted by the City Council for my position.

5) My knitting group focuses on a couple of charitable causes every year. I knit for babies and for those undergoing treatment for cancer. I love knitting hats.

6) Whenever I refresh my towels, I donate my gently used towels to the animal shelter. And blankets!

7) Donating blood regularly.

8) Donating food, including pet food, to the local food pantry. Although, now that I'm thinking about it, our school's holiday pantry drive was all about cleaning supplies. I might get some personal care items and donate them--everyone likes good smelly stuff!

9) Donating gently used items to the local charity and second-hand shops.

10) And supporting student groups that do fundraisers for the homeless shelter.
