I’m guessing most of you like reading (or why would you be here), how do you feel about audio books?
For me, “reading” means using my eyes, not my ears. As much as I acknowledge their usefulness while doing chores or using your hands, I only ever use audiobooks for the rare long drive–listening, no matter how pleasant, is not READING, yet people persist in telling me they like to read and that audio books are their favorites. Am I the only one to feel that’s just not the same thing?
Hmmm, I've never thought that about audiobooks, that it's cheating or that it's not reading. Because literacy skills are being built and engagement of different parts of the brain are triggered. I listen to audiobooks while knitting, so I am being creative while listening. So, for as much as I enjoy eyeball reading, I do enjoy listening to books.

I've never thought about "literacy" as including skills picked up from oral and aural skills, speaking and listening. I used to be an English teacher, so I'm familiar with "the language arts," so to speak, but nothing beats words on page. I'm such a formalist!
I love love love my audio books. I listen while driving or playing FB games. If the voice actor is good, it can totally enhance my enjoyment of the book. (If they're not good, it can ruin a good read for me.) Since I'm highly clairaudient (sounds contain information to me in a very deep way), I get more from listening than when I sit with a book in my hands. It all depends. To each his/her own, sayeth I!
