big day

Faced my fear this morning and went to the dentist for a cleaning and check up. Now my jaws ache and my gums are sensitive. Then I had a consultation for a colonoscopy. What a grand finale to my vacation.

Yay, you--for taking care of yourself. Because you ARE worth it. I hate the dentist, and hated the whole colonoscopy thing. Mammograms too. But, ultimately, I don't want to have something horrible happen because I hated those things...and never got them done......ya know?

Good for you!

DO NOT freak about your colonoscopy. Really. I wasted so much dread beforehand and truly, it's nothing. I was told to count backwards from 100, and I don't even think I got to 99. I woke up in a hospital bed, looking at my feet. I wasn't sore anywhere, the drugs didn't leave me feeling hung over. The only after effect was a craving for salt so overwhelming that I made my oldest friend stop at the hospital cafeteria to pick up a bag of chips before we even left the building. But really, that's it. (The prep the night before is quite appalling, but if you've ever had surgery, you know the name of that tune.)

I don't like either the dentist or the doctor. And as horrible as it sounds, coming from a nurse, I don't do either!

I haven't been back to the dentist since he told me I should pull all my (admittedly craptacular) teeth. Bleah. And I am also lined up for the colonoscopy. FEH. Like Gal says, I know the prep is the ickiest part. Yes, aging is just so fun, innit?
