Aw...I hope you can still manage the birthday trip. You shouldn't have to give it up for tires. :( I think Harriet is right...anyone who works with kids is fairly good at reading people.
Maine has the most beautiful Glaciated landscapes. Hope you get your birthday trip in. And that "click", it's something to listen for, and good to hear.
