If a friend asks you to recommend a really good book—good writing, good characters, good story—but with no other qualifications … what would you recommend?
I don't have a one-book-fits-all answer, really, I'd tailor my answer to the friend and what I think they might like. Some books I did pretty much blanket recommend though, were Room by Emma Donoghue, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, Unsaid by Neil Abramson, and any mystery by Tana French.
