musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying about it.
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Over the weekend I was talking about my TBR and Wishlist queue. We were talking about how a book makes the cut from TBR/Wishlist to being read. A lot of recent releases are on my Wishlist but they don't make the TBR until they're a bit older. Sometimes it has to do with price. I don't want to spend more than $10 for an ebook. I have so many TBRs that it isn't a big deal waiting until the price drops. Then, when I get a gift card, I go nuts buying from my queue. Then the question becomes how do I choose books from my TBR to read. And I have admitted before that I am a cover snob. I'll scroll through the covers until one captures my fancy. Other times I will choose based on the type of book. I don't like to read too many intense books in a row, so I'll alternate something light, something YA, something new, and something intense. I also try not to read a lot of one genre in a row, but that's not a big consideration. My TBR and Wishlist are ever growing, ever evolving. I'm excited to never finish it!

I think we all have the TBR and Wishlist problem. I choose based on authors or type.

Interesting! I've never really thought about this before. I think my decisions are mainly based on my mood at the time--sometimes I'm on a roll with one particular author, topic, or genre, and sometimes I just ant something completely different from the book I just finished. A lot of it also has to do with my library holds--many times I'm more apt to start a book that's due back in a week or so than a book that I own.

I also like to mix up light with more serious novels.

I am a "cover snob" too! I started laughing when I read this, because I didn't think anyone else would determine their next book buy on the basis of a cover ha ha! :)

Some of my TBR is based on a good deal when I buy so like you if a book is on my wishlist and the price drops I snap it up. I seem to have a problem actually reading the masses of books I own though... I shouldn't buy a new one until one has been read but then someone recommends something and I just can't resist.

I have so many books on my Nook that I don't know if I will ever read them all. Someday when I have some extra time on my hands I am going to clear them out. I decide what to read next according to my mood of the moment. Or a good recommendation from a friend :)
