musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying about it.
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

According to Goodreads, I'm one book behind my pace schedule for this year's challenge. So, what am I going to do to make it up? I'm going to continue reading the types of books I normally read but maybe toss in one or two fluffier books that are quicker for me to read. I'm going to turn the TV off and listen to more audiobooks, vegging out and knitting and listening instead of vegging out to the TV. Simple things I can do. I'd like to be at pace or a bit ahead of it.

As my mum like to remind me, no need to obsess about a hobby. It's better to enjoy one book rather than read three at a time.

A little confession: An audiobook can put me to sleep in a blink. I have three audio books and podcasts recording. Whenever I feel like my sleep is being perturbed, I switch them on to listen and then promptly go to sleep. *blush*

Just remember--it's not a race or a contest! :-) I'd rather read fewer books that I truly enjoy rather than read a lot just for the sake of completing them. But there is something about that little Goodreads graph that can sometimes make you feel like you've been slacking . . .

This is the downside of challenging yourself I think. After all who really cares if you are a book behind? Far better to enjoy what you read (and the rest of your life too than try to keep up the pace) I'm still trying to get to grips with audio books, I find my mind wanders but I've now combined with a daily walk which is working much better :-)

I guess I don't pay that much attention to how I am doing on my Goodreads challenge. I know by the end of the year it will all even out. Here is my post: Mixed Book Bag

Gah. I haven't done any challenges in a long, long time.
