I Will Always Love You

1) The Bodyguard is the best-selling movie soundtrack ever and this is the song most often associated with Whitney Houston. Is it on your iPod/mp3 player?
no, I actually never liked her version of it

2) In the movie, Rachel (Whitney) sings "I Will Always Love You" after she realizes she can never see Frank (Kevin Costner) again. What song reminds you of a past love? "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye

3) Despite the movie's and the song's overwhelming popularity, Whitney Houston was awarded a Razzie Award as the worst actress of 1992. What's the most recent criticism you received? some of my students complained that their mid term exam was hard

4) On the bright side, share the last compliment you received. one of my students said I am her favorite teacher of all time

5) In the 1980s, when Whitney first burst onto the scene, a trendy woman wore big hair, big bows and big shoulder pads. Can you think of anything you wore that was fashionable at the time, but looking back, makes you cringe? (An embarrassing photo to accompany your answer would be nice!) I had a couple of "boyfriend" blazers with humongous shoulder pads--unfortunately, I have no photos

6) When this song was popular, cell phones were uncommon and Facebook was unheard of. Which has had a bigger impact on your life -- smart phones or social networking? social networking

7) Whitney's marriage to Bobby Brown left many people shaking their heads. Whitney and Bobby's daughter recently married the young man who was raised as her brother. Have you ever been in a relationship your friends/family didn't approve of? everyone was skeptical when I started my most recent relationship

8) Whitney Houston's grave marker reads, "I Will Always Love You," so obviously her family is very proud of the success of this recording. How would you like to be remembered? as a devoted friend, sister, daughter, and teacher

9) Whitney was born in Newark, the largest city in New Jersey. It's a major air, rail and shipping hub, and it's in the Eastern Time zone. Have you ever been to Newark ... or any town in New Jersey? I've been through NJ, does that count?

I'm so happy I don't have pictures of those ginormous shoulder pads. LOL
I bet you're a great teacher! And if the kids passed the test, then it wasn't too hard. That means you taught them well. :)

Yes, it feels nice to be told you're someone's favorite teacher, though I often point out to them that they've only had one other teacher besides me (I teach primary)! So as a high school teacher, that's got to be a great compliment!

I can't decide if we're lucky or not to have few pictures of our early decades unlike the younger folks coming up along side digital cameras and cell phone pictures. If judging from the lack of pictures in the answers today, I'd lean toward lucky.

I greatly admire teachers, I think I've said that here before. I have thought about being one and was working on it before I became unhealthy and had to stop. I think it is a very hard job. I loved most of my teachers and have fond memories of them.

I could never be a high school teacher, a college professor maybe. I think college kids are more eager to learn than high school kids.

OOOooooh the shoulder pads. I forgot about them! Know something crazy? I actually have a sweater from the late 80s / early 90s that had those massive shoulder pads in them. I cut them out to wear it the other day! LOL I felt so vintage!

I think it must be wonderful to get praise like that from a student.

Oh the shoulder pads! What a horrible fashion decision we all made once upon a time, I did hear last year that they were coming back into style and all I could say was NO!
I'm with you in common core. It will be good, but the work will be daunting. And in high school, you have so much time to wait before the kids will have completed all 8+ years of progressions before they get to you. Good luck! :)

The last question is false. In terms of landmass, Vineland is the biggest city in New Jersey. Newark is biggest based on population (I believe). I grew up in Vineland and dammit, no one even thinks of it!
