musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying about it.
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

I'm going to ramble about how I choose books. I have always been a fan of the Oprah book club, in all its variations. Now I subscribe to her Books Newsletter. I get a lot of great recommendations. I also read a couple of blogs: Alison's Book Marks has never steered me wrong; nor has the Barnes & Noble book blog. I also read a couple of magazines (People & Entertainment Weekly) for their book recommendations.

After browsing my sources, I check out the covers. I am a cover snob. I admit it. If it's an eye-catching cover, I am more apt to pick it up.

The most fun source for new books is word of mouth. Having friends & family recommend books is the best.

Word of mouth--or word of blog :-)--is definitely the best! I've read so many great books since I recently started blogging--and most of them I never would have found on my own.
I like the Barnes & Noble site to help me keep up with new releases, too.

We spoke of similar things this time. I'm quite lucky, I maintain a wishlist on a couple of sites and whenever there's an occasion, people buy me books :)
The wishlist is usually made up of recommendations.
