1. Are you "proud to be an American"? I wonder if people realize how much I love it--I mean, I teach American history for a living.

2. Favorite Founding Father? Alexander Hamilton was more complex than most people know about

3. Favorite president? I don't know that I have a favorite, really

4. Biggest "Patriotic Moment"? touring the monuments by night in Washington, DC

5. Favorite patriotic song? America the Beautiful

6. Favorite American cuisine? apple pie... actually, strawberry pie

7. Happiest political moment of your life? watching presidential inaugurations, especially President Obama's historic one

8. Best fireworks display you've ever seen? I haven't seen any in person

9. America's gift to the world? democratic principles

10. Favorite Bill of Rights right? this is complex--I suppose I take advantage of the first most often, although the protection of individual rights in the 4th, 5th, and 6th are important

11. Favorite American Holiday? Thanksgiving

12. Favorite D.C. monument? the Lincoln Memorial

13. Your dream for America's future? an end to the political nonsense

You're so right about the Inaugurations! Even the controversial or sad ones (like Johnson take the oath of office on Air Force One) are moving. It's a tribute to our peaceful transfer of power and it always makes me crowd.
