finished...

I think it's been more than a decade since I tried listening to an audiobook. Since I started knitting, I thought I would try listening and thought I would try this book. I was hoping that since Rob Lowe reads it, it would be like us having a sit down visit. And it didn't disappoint! I really enjoyed listening to this book. His stories unfold along the timeline of my life.

I liked his relationships with politicos and actors. And hearing more about how the Brat Pack got its name.

My only criticism is that "the sex tape scandal" was not explored in any real detail. And I guess I didn't want explicit detail, I just wanted it in context a bit more.

More than anything, though, I think I will try another audiobook. Autobiography seems to be the way to go, I enjoyed it.

I saw parts of that famous sex tape (a long and not very interesting story) and while my first impulse is to string up anyone who exploits a child, I truly thought he was set up. In the portion I saw, the girl kept calling him "Rob Lowe." Not "Honey," or "Baby," or even "Rob" or "Lowe." Always "Rob Lowe." It seemed obvious to me that the girl always intended to blackmail him with the tape. I'm not justifying what he did -- she was 16, whether he knew it or not, and so it was a crime. But I also thought, "What a drunk stooge he is!" My boyfriend at the time commented that "Rob Lowe" should have been more embarrassed by how he looked taking batting practice with the Braves at the beginning of the tape.

I just finished Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys on audio, read by Lenny Henry...it was AWESOME (I've read that Neil himself reads most of his books and he's got a LOVELY voice)! The Help on audio was great too. Now I'm listening to To Kill A Mockingbird, read by Sissy Spacek.

If you want to read another autobiography read by the author, definitely try Kristin Chenowith. So delightful, including fun things like her bursting into song and having friends read parts of the book. It was MUCH better as an audiobook than it would have been as a book-book.

If you want "thriller" type of audio books, I highly recommend any of David Baldacci's or Michael Connelly's books.
