today...

For as glad as I am that Osama Bin Laden has finally been killed, what I really feel is this:

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that" —Martin Luther King Jr

I am worried for the repercussions.

I'm totally putting this on my facebook. Also? The picture you posted before this post? I totally printed that at work this morning - it made me laugh out loud.

Amen, my Sistah!! That is exactly how I feel. This will not sit well with a LOT of already angry & violent people. And it didn't stop a thing.

I also laughed out loud at that picture you posted. :)

And I remember the impromptu comments Bobby Kennedy made in April 68, the night he had to tell those attending a rally that Dr. King was dead. (Remember, this was before a 24-hour news cycle.) He encouraged us to, "dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and to make gentle the life of this world." Of course,in less than 90 days he was dead and buried, too, but never mind that. I prefer to think of what we can aspire to, not what we're capable of.

I am not dancing or making sick jokes about this death.

I am declaring that I am no more afraid tonight than I was last week or the week after 9/11. I remember the words of Jesus: "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage. I am here"

I agree, I'm glad they caught him--because of the crime he committed. But it won't really change anything. And you are so right--hate begets hate.

What MLK said is so true.

I also worry about the repercussions. We just stuck a stick in a hornet's nest.
