today's the day...

Today is the day I broke the news to the Civil Rights Team members. They were shocked. A couple of them had heard through the grapevine, but weren't sure what to think. The Student Council is also going to mention it when they make a presentation to the School Board on the 19th. One of the kids asked if it was me who wanted to stop working with the Civil Rights Team but I assured them that is not the case. Another Team member wants to speak at the next school board meeting, too. I told them my hands are tied but that there is a time for the public to speak in the forum.

Again, it was a bittersweet day. We did plan to have our year's end celebration. That's the good news.

It's so disheartening when something so positive is taken away. Wishing you the best of luck at the forum.

PS - I highly recommend coming up with a list. I agonized over it, but it's kind of fun once it's all done!

That had to hard to tell the students. Were there other student organizations that were cut? Were there cuts in the sports programs?

All of these school budget cuts are such a blow to the students and faculty, especially when they've worked so hard for it. :(

Your kids are learning a very hard lesson about disappointment and fiscal reality. It's an important life lesson, even though you'd rather not teach it, and they are learning from your example in handling it. I hope when all this is behind you, you can take some solace from that.
