Today I made the hotel reservation for Phase 1 of my big road trip. I've been thinking about and wanting to go visit my sisters in Pennsylvania and Virginia forever. And the time is now. I'm going to be on a three-week break from school with a little bit of savings and a 2-year old car in excellent shape. If I don't do it now, I never will. I invited my oldest sister to come with me but she isn't able to get the time off from her job. Bummer. That means I am going to make the trip by myself. But I've visited Google maps and printed off my route, I'll have plenty of good music and I can do it. I'm ticking things off the list I made for my Ten Things Tuesday and am making mental plans for the rest of what I need to do before I hit the road.
I'm so excited. And I'm so glad I'm doing this. I've never taken a road trip like this by myself. I've never even made hotel reservations for just myself. I've made them for groups I chaperon or when I've traveled with other people but never just for myself.
My Virginia sister would like us to take a day-trip to Monticello, and since I'm such a Jefferson fan, I can't wait to walk through the gardens and his home.

I don;t like to travel that much in strange places. Next spring I'll have to drive to South Carolina for my nephew's wedding.
Here's a tip, stop at some historic places and take some pictures to use in your class (such as Gettysburg, Mt Vernon and Monticello). The trip may be work related and be a tax deduction.
I love to travel by myself, so I predict you will have a terrific time. A hotel room to yourself, no one to coordinate your waking and resting times with (think of the NAPS), those little shampoo and conditioner bottles all for you ... Sigh.
Monticello sounds delightful. I'm a sucker for a good Presidential tour, you know. I'm jealous!
How exciting for you! It sounds like a wonderful trip, and one filled with such opportunities.
I look forward to hearing all about it.
