My favorite modern president is featured on American Experience tonight. His story is inspiring. And I take a lot of flack for loving Carter. But his commitment to human rights strikes a chord with me. It inspires me to be a better person. Would another candidate have avoided the financial crises of the late 70s? Who knows for sure. He's like a breath of fresh air. He was progressive for his times. He led by example. His moral compass never wavered.
I remember watching his inauguration on tv when I was in 5th grade. I remember him walking down the street and what a big deal it was.

Carter was also my favorite President and I was two years out of college when he was elected.
