sunday morning rain is falling...

I spent a couple of hours at school today assessing the wreckage of my prolonged absence. It wasn't as bad as I expected although it was obvious someone had rifled through my things. I lined the desks up the way I like them, shuffled and straightened papers, organized some files, photocopied this week's handouts and generally puttered.

Four days until Harvest Break.

For the uninitiated, Harvest Break is the annual letting out of school so students can help local farmers with the potato harvest. Back in the day, lots of kids actually worked with the farmers picking potatoes or working on harvesters. Now, kids just work their regular jobs or do nothing for the three week break. I wish we didn't have it anymore, I'd rather have the three weeks subtracted from the end of the school year. But, it's tradition. And some traditions die hard.

Oh, after school, I went to Al's. It was good but I couldn't finish so I brought it home for later. That's a first.

Then I tried to nap. But the phone rang and then my neighbor came over bearing food. :-) I'll pass up a nap for my neighbor's cooking--this time it was cheeseburger soup and biscuits. That'll make a fancy lunch tomorrow.

Now I'm sitting here in a daze. All this hospital stuff is catching up with me.

And top it off Dad's shih tzu is in the doggy hospital. She has terrible separation anxiety (well, she is an old lady) and Addison's Disease (what President Kennedy had) and was not doing well. Usually I doggy sit and we have a good routine for when they're gone. We went to visit her yesterday and she made her little noises for Dad. He, of course, feels terribly guilty for being gone so long--like he had a choice. But it's hard to see the Queen Of All Things in such sad shape. She was better than we expected... tomorrow they have to make some hard decisions if she isn't significantly improved. It would crush Dad to have to put her down, but he wouldn't want her to suffer.

It never ends, does it?

Post title from Maroon 5, Sunday Morning from the album Songs About Jane

"steal some covers / share some skin."

You didn't need the postscript for me; I think that may be my favorite Maroon 5 song...

Sorry about the dog. I hope Dad's feeling better. Go to bed early - you'll be glad you did in the morning...

You've got a lot to deal with.
I'm sorry that you're in front of such a sad decision.

I'm so sorry about the Queen. I hope she gets better soon. And I hope your Dad is feeling better too.

I didn't need the postscript either. I just love Maroon 5.

I love you more though. :)

Oh, I feel so sorry for your dad's puppy! I always remind myself that each dog and cat's brain is only about the size of a plum pit, and they really *can't* understand much of what happens to them. This puts more responsibility on us, their humans, to do the right thing -- even when the right thing sucks.

I'm glad you're back home, and back to Al's. Everything is a little easier to take when you're home, isn't it?
