give me five monday

The 'Give Me Five' Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple short list! Here's how it works. Each week, I will put out a random topic from my list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back here! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn't have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified.

Give Me Five tips and tricks to save money or cut corners to stretch your budget.

1. Make coffee at home or at work. I bought a 5-cup coffee maker for $7 and in a week it had more than paid for itself with the money I saved from my $2 daily coffee!

2. No more impulse shopping. I specifically set aside some random money each week for splurges. I call it my planned unplanned shopping. Weeks I don't use the money roll over into the next week and it's gotten easier to buy what I need instead of what I want. And to save up the money instead of splurging!

3. Visit the library. Instead of buying books I am using my local library much more.

4. Buy movie coupon books. Buying the special deals for rentals is cheaper in the long run. And it's not quite so painful when the movie's awful.

5. Cut cable. Yup, that's what I did. I cut back to the "sub basic" (what I affectionately call baby cable) and my bill is $16/month and I still get the major networks. I'm not vegging out to junk TV anymore!

I don't know about any coupon books for the movies, but Wehrenberg movie theaters have a points system and as you build points with movie tickets AND concessions, you earn free movie tickets and snacks and drinks! Thanks for reminding me about that one, I guess there could easily be more than 5 this week too! You have a great GM5 list, the library is a good resource, on of the other GM5er's suggested borrowing DVD's instead of renting them, I had no idea! LOL

We cut cable altogether. They would say $15.95 a month and in three months it would be up to $20 and in six months it would be up to $25. Got tired of it. We don't have television at all.

I so agree with you about the coffee thing. I used to do that everyday too. Saves a ton of money.

Great list. Have a great GM5. :)

Coffee at home is a great one. I splurged on the $15 coffee maker with built in timer. It's wonderful. I make my coffee with milk and Hershey's chocolate syrup. Yummy

Great list - I love the coffee one. I work it home so it makes it easier, but because I never get tempted to do starbuck's or ANY drive thru kiosk I can splurge once in awhile on flavored brewed coffee. I also mix the flavored pack with a 3 pound can of my regular flavor and now have 3 1/2 pounds of flavored for a lot less.
