and again...

... Winter Storm Warning now in effect until 8 PM EDT Friday...

The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until 8 PM EDT Friday.

Snow will develop across the region late this afternoon... then mix
with sleet late tonight. The precipitation may mix with or change
to freezing rain late tonight... mainly south of a Presque Isle to
Ashland line. Precipitation will transition back to snow Thursday
afternoon. Snow... of varying intensities... will then continue
through Friday before tapering to snow showers Friday night. Storm
total snow and sleet accumulations through Friday afternoon are
expected to generally range from 12 to 18 inches... with the
greater snow totals across the Saint John valley and northwest
areas. Storm total ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch
are expected across northern portions of Piscataquis and Somerset
County and south of a Presque Isle to Ashland line in eastern
Aroostook County.

Strong northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will
develop on the backside of this storm later Thursday night and
continue through Friday. Frequent whiteouts with near blizzard
conditions are possible later Thursday night through Friday.

This storm will have a high impact on the warning area. Heavy snow
will cover roads and reduce visibilities making travel difficult
at times. Ice accumulations will also contribute to slippery Road
conditions. Strong northwest winds will combine with falling snow
to produce significant areas of blowing and drifting snow and near
whiteout conditions at times later Thursday night through Friday.
