I like this word of the day:

jamboree
Definition: (noun) A noisy celebration.
Synonyms: gala, gala affair, blowout
Usage: Mary could not bear to miss the party and begged her mother for permission to attend the jamboree.

I like the word jamboree, but I don't think those are good synonyms. No one would mistake a "gala affair" for a jamboree. Right?
