holidailies

I joined a new challenge called Holidailies... to blog every day from December 1st until January 1st.

There are several prompts on the Home page for Holidailies but I am veering off that path today to talk about waiting in line or on line.

The 2008 Season tickets went on sale at 10 A.M. today. My neighbor is a die-hard Sox fan and would love nothing more than to spend her birthday at the Opening Game at Fenway on April 9th. I tried for over forty-five minutes to be in the online queue for tickets until I ran out of patience.

What's the deal? If Sox Headquarters knows there will be such traffic, how come they don't anticipate it better and open up a few more lines?

Seriously, it's the holiday season. It's the World Series Red Sox. It's opening day for tickets. It's opening day at Fenway. How could they not predict the demand will be high? Those of us in Red Sox Nation are very very loyal. Do you hear me?

Even at SuperWalMart this morning there were long lines of early-bird shoppers like myself. We're talking 8 o'clock, too. Many registers open, many long lines, at least we early birds know enough to keep our cool and remain pleasant and friendly as we knowingly roll our eyes at each other in the check out lanes. It was actually fun. Can you believe waiting in line was fun?

Now the difference between waiting in line at WalMart and waiting online at Sox Land is that I could literally see the end of the line. I could see the cashier. I could see the customers ahead of me. Sox Land was not that case. It was a self-updating (every thirty seconds) page that offered nothing interesting or stimulating or fun. No one to roll eyes with and no end of the online waiting in sight.

I never expected waiting in line at WalMart to be more fun than something else. Least of all something that should have been fun like buying RedSox tickets for my neighbor's birthday. But I give up. I surrender! Bah humbug!
