counting down...

to the time when I start playing holiday music...

It is my favorite kind of music. When well-done and well-interpreted I don't mind hearing the same song, different rendition several times in the course of a listening session.

The best thing about my new car is the CD player. :-)

I have enough holiday music: religious, traditional, Christmas and holiday (my reference for songs sung during the Christmas season but aren't religious) so that I can listen to one CD per day with no repeats from my birthday (October 29) until Epiphany Sunday (the 12th Day of Christmas). Dude, no repeats. That's how much I like it. Can't wait.

When I have to make a gift basket a mixed CD is usually tucked among the yummies.

I can't wait to listen to Josh Groban's Noel and see who else releases something for the season.

Probably because my dad has been the church organist at the Catholic church since he was 14 years old (yes, a whopping 54 years) and he is a remarkable musician. The local Chorale society has been in swing since 1976 and again, Daddy-o has been conducting all but one of those years. So, I grew up surrounded by the sounds of holiday music. Samples would arrive in June so he would be able to order in time for September choral start-up and it wasn't unusual to hear it all summer. I just love the festive, celebratory nature of the music.

Even though I am not a religious person, I am a person of great spirit. Who doesn't wish "peace on earth" and "goodwill to all"? Seriously. Maybe that sounds a bit defensive, but living in a small town where the family is deeply involved in the musical community, it is not uncommon for some boneheadus to call me hypocritical to profess a love of Christmas music but not be a Christian. Uh... I'm not Italian and I love pasta and olives. meh.

I don't start listening to Christmas music until our tree is up, sometime around the second week of December.

I wait until the Friday after Thanksgiving. But perhaps I should begin earlier. I work so hard to squeeze so much Christmas into just over a month that sometimes I get a little intensely cheery.
