I've been kicking around the idea of a tattoo - a small, discrete dragonfly somewhere - but I know my husband would disapprove and, you know, I'm a big baby when it comes to pain...
This is # 2... and I am so thrilled with both of them. There are places that hurt more than others--that area on my leg is near a lot of nerves so my foot was very jittery/jumpy...
My wrist did not hurt... choosse a fleshy place on the body.
Choose an image you love... and make sure you get it somewhere you can see it. That's the best suggestion someone gave me. (that ruled out the back of my neck or my lower back)... I almost went with my upper thigh (where no one would see it)...
I got my first tattoo for my birthday in 2006. It isn't someplace that I can see unless I look in the mirror. And, of course, it's a fleur de lis! ;-) I didn't happen to think that it was painful, and I'm very afraid of needles. I do hear that it depends upon where on your body you have it done.
I love your new tattoo. It's a fantastic design. Did you design it yourself.
It actually is inspired by you!! I like your mandala so much, I added in my love of Celtic design and found this mandala... it's the center piece of a larger graphic.
The wrist tattoo did not hurt... this hurt because it kept hitting nerves and my feet were jumpy. Well worth it, though.
Couldn't get it on a t-shirt? Ahhhhh! I just don't understand going through the pain... not that I'm a wuss, but why subject yourself to pain when you don't have to?!?! Not that there's anything wrong with people gettin' a tat but tain't no fo' me, dat's fo' sho!
I used to say the same thing, Chris. I'm a major pain wuss, too, plus as a red head I have a lower pain tolerance... but when I decided to get ink I knew I wanted to tell this story visually.
Age has a lot to do with it, too. These have such significance, are such markers of events in my life that I am glad I did it. I did it for me, to celebrate me.
*shrug* a t-shirt didn't have the significance I needed.
Your mandala is gorgeous! I have one tattoo, of a beehive and bees. It was a statement of taking back control of my own body when I had cancer, and I've never regretted it. You're right that there's much worse pain than that of a tattoo. I'm ready for a second one, probably a skein of yarn and some knitting needles - but I certainly do like yours.
