myth busted!

Listen Up: Men Are Just as Chatty as Women

For years, we’ve all bought into the stereotype that women talk more than men. But a study published this month in the journal Science should shut a lot of people up.

A team of psychologists led by Dr. James Pennebaker at the University of Texas at Austin arranged for 400 male and female college students to wear devices that randomly recorded their speech for 30 seconds every 12 minutes. The students were not aware of when the devices were on.

The findings: Women spoke an average of 16,215 words per day and men spoke 15,669. The difference of 546 words is considered statistically insignificant.

So, ladies, the next time your man accuses you of talking too much, show him this story and tell him HE talks too much.
