Book Preference Meme
I totally swiped this from A Tense Teacher...

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?
Horror.

Hardback or Trade paperback or Mass market paperback?
I don't often get hardbacks unless they're a real deal. I'm ok with either trade or mass market size.

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?
I would prefer Brick and Mortar but rely on Amazon a lot.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
The bane of living at the end of the earth is that there are few book stores around. We have a B.Dalton which is the poor cousin of B&N. I do love shopping in the big B&N in Augusta or the Borders in Bangor.

Hitchhiker or Discworld?
Never read either one of them; not my preferred kind of book. Unless Hitchhiker is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy--I read that in high school (and barely remember it)

Bookmark or Dog-ear?
Bookmark. I've used some unusual things to mark my page (postage stamps, clean squares of toilet paper--which I have to add that I like using tp to wipe my glasses because it's soft and doesn't fray) ticket stubs, chinese fortunes... I don't like dog-eared books, that's why I stopped using the library.

Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction?
I don't really like fantasy fiction, so I'll go with Asimov.

Alphabetize by author, Alphabetize by title, or Random?
They are haphazardly stacked, kind of by color.

Keep, Throw away or Sell?
I'm terrible at keeping the books I love--usually I pass them along so others can enjoy. I don't throw away and couldn't be bothered to sell.

Keep dust-jacket or Toss it?
Keep, keep keep.

Read with dustjacket or Remove it?
With the dustjacket, it can double as a bookmark!

Short story or Novel?
I prefer a novel.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
I've read one Harry Potter and one Lemony Snicket... I didn't have a preference. What I liked about both books is the rich vocabulary. I thought they were sophisticated for kid's books.

Stop reading when tired or at Chapter breaks?
I guess it depends on the book: the book I'm reading now (Whitethorn Woods is a chapter break; the book I just finished, Middlesex was a stop when tired.)

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time?”
Probably more "dark and story." Although, a good "once upon a time" never hurt anyone.

Buy or Borrow?
I buy and pass along, I borrow and give back.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
mostly browse... I confess I choose books because of the cover.

Lewis or Tolkien?
uhm... neither?

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
I enjoy both.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
I don't mind a cliffhanger as long as it's an ending that goes with the story--an example is The Road--the last few paragaraphs seem like they're just stuck in, without the flow of the rest of the story.

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
Woo, I could read all day any day!!!

Standalone or Series?
I'm not fussy... but if I read a series, it HAS to be in order.

New or used?
Mostly new... although I borrow and trade books with my friends

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
Eureka Street by Robert McLiam Wilson

Top 5 favorite genre books of all time?
gosh... I don't even know how to answer this one... I guess I would choose writings from World War II: Night by Eli Weisel, Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland by Christopher Browning, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and Seeds of Sarah by Judith Isaacson. Some of these are the most difficult and yet most uplifting books I've ever read.

Favorite genre series?
I love a mystery series: the Bubbles series or the Passport to Peril series, Sue Grafton's alphabet books... stuff like that.

Currently Reading?
Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy; on deck: Doggy Style by Jane May, Second Chance by Jane Green, Blue Diary by Alice Hoffman, Drenched in Light by Lisa Wingate and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield; for school: The River Between Us by Richard Peck, Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation by Jon Meacham, and Revolutionary Characters: What Made the Founders Different by Gordon S.
