just finished reading...

Not the type of book I would normally choose but it's for a high school reading group. The first sentence was my hook: "Let me say this right up front: this is a not a story about kissing, or wrinkles, or things that are sour."

Pucker is a redemption story.

**More about Pucker**

It's a sci-fi/fantasy novel and the main character is called Pucker by cruel kids because of disfiguring scars from a childhood fire. His mother is bedridden from mental illness and it's up to him to return to his birthplace, an alternate world called Isaura hoping to find help for his mother. At Isaura, Pucker will be healed and must suddenly learn to deal with being beautiful and desired. He has to choose between the temptation of physical perfection and returning to his life on earth.

It's a fast-paced story.

Can you give a more complete review, please? This book - its cover and its first line - intrigues me.
