With a hat tip to Legends of America, here are 10 fun facts about presidents:

1) George Washington was the only American president to be unanimously elected.

2) Chester A. Arthur was nicknamed "Elegant Arthur" because of his fashion sense.

3) Franklin Pierce was the first president to have a Christmas tree in the White House.

4) John F. Kennedy was the first president to hold a press conference on television.

5) The Presidential Election of 1800 between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson was one of only two elections that resulted in the House of Representatives deciding who would be President of the United States. It was also the only time where there was a tie for President in the Electoral College.

6) Ulysses S. Grant was the first president to run against a woman candidate, Virginia Woodhull the nominee of the “Equal Rights Party” in 1872.

7) Thomas Jefferson was the first president to shake hands with guests. Previously people bowed to Presidents.

8) Jimmy Carter studied nuclear physics at Annapolis.

9) Calvin Coolidge refused to use the telephone while in office.

10) Lyndon B. Johnson was the only president to take the oath of office from a female official, Judge Sarah T. Hughes.

Judge Sarah Hughes didn't want to deliver the oath of office to LBJ. Neither she nor Bobby Kennedy felt it was necessary, that Johnson became POTUS the moment JFK was pronounced dead. But Johnson insisted because he believed the nation needed to see him put his hand on the Bible.
