musing mondays

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• I’m currently reading…
• Up next I think I’ll read…
• I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
• I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
• I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
• I can’t wait to get a copy of…
• I wish I could read ___, but…
• I blogged about ____ this past week…

This week’s random question: What would you do if you wanted to buy a book for someone, but didn’t know what they like to read? Would you ask them? Would you choose something you, yourself, like? How would you go about buying them something?

I enjoy buying books as gifts. Even if I am not sure what kind of books the recipient enjoys. Sometimes I think of a genre that they might enjoy or else I buy a buzzed-about book. I might buy a book that I love, depending on my relationship with the person.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't often give books to people I don't know.

I am afraid that I take the easy way out, and buy gift cards. It has been a while since I bought a book for anyone...when I buy for my grandchildren, I take them along and let them pick out a book.

I do love to buy book gifts, but I wait til I either hear them talk of their favs or fav author. :) Then I'm sure they'll value the gift !

Just about the only person I regularly give books to as gifts is my mom--and then only because I tend to know what she has and hasn't already read and I'm really familiar with her taste. Otherwise, I'm just never sure what to select for someone else!
