When the weather is cold and blustery, would you rather read something is equally wintery? Or something to take you as far away from the snow as possible? From the archives.

In honor of today's snowstorm that has forced me to cancel all my plans (boo hiss), I will take on this question from a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think I've ever chosen a book based on the weather or setting of the book. Although the book I'm reading now, Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker, frequently mentions the stifling hot summer in Washington, DC, and I went there in my mind. I tend to read more thrillers and mysteries in the winter months and lighter fare in the summer.

Mary's reminiscences of DC in those days make is sound like a horrible, turgid swamp.
