songs of the season

Today's prompt: What is your favorite holiday song (or alternatively, what is the worst holiday song?).

I love Christmas music. It's my favorite genre of music. I love traditional holiday songs as well as popular songs. I'm not so sure I can pick just one favorite. I really love different songs for different reasons, different version, and different arrangements. This year, I've been listening to Mary J. Blige's A Mary Christmas. There's something about her voice that resonates with me. And it includes a gorgeous French carol, Petit Père Noël.

The worst songs are the foolish ones, like Grandma Got Run Over or the paisan songs from the 60s.

Oh yes Grandma got run over by a reindeer is the WORST! So bad. I LOVE Christmas music and look forward to playing it every year (I do wait patiently until after Thanksgiving. ha) so it s hard to narrow down. I like We need a little Christmas and It's the most wonderful time of the year.

No. Feliz Navidad is the worst. I don't know why but it's nails on a chalkboard for me. I kinda like Grandma Got Run Over...

Those 'paisan' songs are so awful they're almost funny...but then, I live in Texas and most of my friends had never even heard of them. (I submit that "Dominick the Donkey" is the BEST 'worst Christmas song ever.')

But the ultimate worst? "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."

My favorite Christmas CD is James Taylor's. I never get sick of it. Poor Grandma. No one seems to mourn her passing after her unfortunate run in with the man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.
