Feliz Navidad

1. "Feliz Navidad" is Spanish for "Merry Christmas." Can you wish us happy holidays in a language other than English or Spanish? Mele Kalikimaka--it's the thing to say on a bright, Hawaiian Christmas Day! Joyeux Noël, Buon Natale (I think that's how to spell it)...

2. According to ASCAP (the American Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers), this is one of the 20 most played holiday songs of the last 10 years. What's the most recent carol that you heard? I was listening to Mary J. Blige's A Mary Christmas, and left off in the middle of "Mary Did You Know?"

3. Which Christmas song do you hope you never hear again? this year I am tired of "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

4. This week's featured artist, Jose Feliciano, was honored to perform this song at the tree lighting ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. If you were to win a trip to our nation's capital, which sites would you visit? I would take a monument tour at night! I love doing that. But I haven't seen the MLK memorial, the FDR memorial, the WWII memorial--there are so many things to see! And the museums! I must see the Women's art museum, a little known gem.

5. As a very young child, Jose taught himself to play the accordion. If you could suddenly, easily learn to play any instrument, which would you choose? I would choose the guitar

6. Jose says that hearing early 1950s rock on the radio made him want to become a singer. What's your favorite music genre? Christmas music is my favorite genre

7. At 17, Jose had to drop out of school to help support his family. Too young to enter bars, he played guitar in coffee houses for tips. Have you ever worked a job where you regularly received gratuities? I worked as a hostess and waitress at a local restaurant. I hated it.

8. Jose and wife Susan have been together for more than 40 years. Who is the happiest married couple you know? all of the marrieds I know are happy

9. Jose wrote and performed the theme of the 1970s show, Chico and the Man. What's your current favorite TV show? I'm enjoying this season of Top Chef, it's in Boston

Thank you for your kind words about my dad. I appreciate them as well as our friendship.

I'm disheartened by how many say that can't wish us a merry Christmas in another tongue. Like if they heard, "Joyeux Noël," they'd scratch their heads and ask, "WTF?" I wonder if this resistance to foreign languages is some jingoistic 'Murican thing.

Are you going to be sad when the Christmas music goes away for the year?

Totally agree with Gal on the 'Murican thing, ugh!

Glad all the marrieds you know are happy!! <3

Everyone's picking the guitar this week!

I didn't know there was a women's Art museum, so I will definitely have to look into that, if I ever get to where I can walk again and take a trip.

If you play them -Christmas Carols - from time to time during the winter, it is good. Try it?

Mele Kalikimaka!

I catch Top Chef like every other season. Watching all of that food sometimes makes me too hungry to watch any more.
